During this week, I have learned so many teaching method, games, activities from this TESOL Course. And they’re very useful to my class. I learned what makes a great teacher, each letter has a different mean. I learned students motivation can directly effect push students to do learning. I learned the WH jazz/flee fly mosquito/pass the beat chants. I learned how should teachers give instruction. I learned what are the word formation.
TESOL tips for teaching vocabularies:
They’re 8 different word formation. Compounding, conversion, clipping, blends, backformation, acronyms, onomatopoeia, eponyms. We can use bubble map, double bubble map. Flow map, multi-flow map, circle map, tree map, brace map and bridge map, to set a topic. There’re 8 different intelligence types. Visual, verbal, logical, bodily, interpersonal, interpersonal, musical, naturalist intelligence. After training, I know I am bodily intelligence. And i know I should use different strategy to different intelligence type.
TESOL Methods: TPR
TPR is out most common way in our daily class. TPR is total physical response. It is an approach to teaching second language that was developed in the 1970s. TPR should not be used in isolation, but as one of many teaching tools in a language teacher’s bag. TPR applies the learning processes of first language acquisition into teaching adults a second language. And if you observe very carefully, students don’t start off saying “ball!ball!” While pointing to their toy. They started off all silent, their innocent eyes listening and observing when adults say, “get the ball, Robbie! C’mon, get the ball.” TPR considers comprehension as the highway to language acquisition. So the first goal of TPR is making the students understand what the word, phrase, command or expression is all about. There’s no push to produce the correct sounds, but there’s an invitation for students to listen and observe. Mouths are not opened, but eyes and ears are just like how it happens with children.
